Coffee break restaurant12/7/2023 ![]() Kudos to the pleasant staff who went out of their way to accommodate two non-smoking customers and make them feel comfortable. The coffee was good, the pizza was yummy, and by the time we were finished the rain had stopped and the sky was clearing up. We ordered coffee and, while checking out the various food and pastry items in the display case, the server told us that the pizza slices were delicious. She and another employee collected a table and chairs from outside, dried them off, and voila! - we had a seat in the back where we could breathe easier. "What can I say? This is Greece," she said, smiling and shaking her head. In this episode of Coffee Break Portuguese were learning vocabulary and phrases that will come in useful if youre going to a restaurant. She apologized for the smokiness and told us that, despite laws that ban smoking in restaurants, people continue to light up indoors. One of the staff overheard us talking about trying to find a less smoky place to go, and she asked us to give her a few moments to set up a table and chairs for us at the very back of the cafe, away from all the smokers. Sitting on the patio outside the cafe wasn't possible because the tables and chairs there were getting soaked by the rain. We looked for seats toward the back, but every seat was occupied. The place was packed with customers, and to our chagrin almost everyone sitting near the front of the cafe was smoking. We had just arrived in Argostoli and were walking along the harbourside road when stormclouds blew in and it began to rain.
